The Huntington Beach Firefighters Association is a very active organization that continues to give back to the community on and off the job. Our Fire Association is hosting its 23rd annual “Great Balls of Fire” charity golf tournament. This year’s tournament will be held at the beautiful Meadowlark Golf Club on Monday, October 16, 2023.
The HBFA looks forward to spending a fun filled day with you and your guests as we have a great venue, lots of amazing prizes, plenty of food and beverages on the course as well as a very entertaining dinner and auction event.
Our primary beneficiary for this year’s tournament will benefit Common Ground. Established in 2013, Common Ground is dedicated to providing an enriching after-school experience for children in the Oak View Community. Common Ground started out as a surf camp for kids in the community and has grown significantly over the years. They now offer daily after-school programs for middle and high school students and provide a diverse range of clubs, annual retreats and activities that include soccer, surfing, homework, and adventure. Through these engaging pursuits, they aim to foster a sense of belonging and camaraderie among the children and families of the Oak View community while also promoting mentorship and personal growth.
Currently, Common Ground has approximately 70 kids each week attending daily programs, with an additional 90 children benefiting from their summer Surf Camps and Winter Retreats. Annually, they provide over 800 meals for children within the community.
Through the years, Common Ground has seen some amazing transformation with the children they have worked with. Many of them start the program as middle schoolers and are now in college leading exciting and fulfilling lives.
Common Ground’s mission is to make a positive impact by nurturing relationships and promoting faith-based values. With the support of their dedicated team, the City and Community of Huntington Beach, Common Ground aims to expand their programs and create a brighter future for the Oak View children through its impactful programs.
