2024 HONOREES AND PRESENTERS

We were delighted to honor Scott Moak as our Champion Honoree for his commitment to improving the lives of children and youth in foster care.

2024 COMMUNITY HERO AWARD: 

Scott Moak

Public Address Announcer, Sacramento Kings 

A veteran of social services and trained marriage and family therapist, Scott now heads up the Community Investment department with the Sacramento Republic FC. Prior to that, Scott was working as the Executive Director of the Sacramento Kings Foundation and led their “Do Good” work.  

Pre-pandemic, he co-founded a boutique consultancy with his long friend and former Kings Executive VP of Marketing, Erica Rau, and they have hand-picked projects to work on from industries and topics such as homelessness, mental health, youth sports, real estate, health & wellness, financial institutions, food insecurity and more.  

Since 2002, Scott has been the Public Address Announcer for the Sacramento Kings, and he also co-hosts an entertainment and lifestyle show on Fox40 weekdays at noon.  

Scott and his fiancée Mackenzie are busy raising 2 amazingly fun and kind kiddos, a daughter (Evan, 13) and son (Asher, 10). 


2024 FEATURED SPEAKERS

Justice Shama Mesiwala

Justice Shama Mesiwala is a native Californian, whose family immigrated from Mumbai, India in the 1960s.  After graduating law school, she was a lawyer for indigent criminal defendants.

Justice Mesiwala then transitioned to working for the judiciary. She was a chamber’s attorney for Justice Ron Robie for 11 years. Then she spent 6 years on the trial court, first as a commissioner and then as a judge.  She presided over a dependency courtroom for 4 years, including creating the first Indian Child Welfare Act Courtroom in Northern California.

On Valentine’s Day 2023, she was confirmed to the Third District Court of Appeal, having been rated exceptionally well qualified.  She is the first South Asian female justice and first Muslim female justice on any California appellate court.

Justice Mesiwala is active in the community. She is a professor of Appellate Advocacy at her alma mater UC Davis Law School; is president of the Schwartz/Levi Inn of Court; and is cofounder of the South Asian Bar Association of Sacramento.

Justice Mesiwala lives in Yolo County with her spouse of 21 years and their lively son.


Janay Eustace

President & CEO The Child Abuse Prevention Center

 

Janay Eustace (she/her) is the President and CEO of the Child Abuse Prevention Center, in Sacramento, CA. The mission of The Child Abuse Prevention Center is to prevent child abuse and neglect through a spectrum of prevention at the local, statewide, and national level. Janay was previously the Executive Director of California Youth Connection (CYC). She has worked for the California Welfare Directors Association (CWDA) and as the Quality Parenting Initiative (QPI) Champion and Youth Engagement Lead at the Youth Law Center. When she was a Sacramento County Child Protective Services Social Worker, she advocated to establish the Sacramento State University's Guardian Scholars Program, which still continues to serve systems impacted parents, families, and youth today. She first became involved with prevention and systems transformation work during her time in the foster care system. One of the many accomplishments Janay is proud of is helping execute the California Fostering Connections to Success Act nationally and implementation across the State of California. Janay is committed to ensuring the integrity of prevention frameworks that are fundamentally rooted in diversity, with a community-led partnership. She graduated from Sacramento State University where she received a Bachelors and Master of Social Work Degree. Janay is also an immensely proud wife, mother to three amazing boys, sister/chosen sister, God-mom, and aunty.
